Tovino-Kalyani in lead roles, Thallumala is gearing up for release. The film is reaching the audience with huge hype. Tovino and Kalyani’s slightly challenging roles in their careers are the same in Thallumala. Kalyani says that Bipathu in Thallumala was the most challenging role she has done so far. Kalyani says that Bipathu is not at all similar to her character and she had to struggle a bit to become that character.
Kalyani also says that Khalid used to say that attitude and Jada were not enough when shooting the scene for the first one or two days.
‘Beepathu is very colourful. Jada is a trailblazing character. Beepathu in Thallumala is one of the roles I struggled the most in my career. That’s because my personality and hers are two extremes. I still remember the first one-two-day shoot. Rahman came to me and said that we still need attitude, we still need swag, we still need Jada. This is all I have and I don’t want more. The first day was a struggle, Kalyani said.
Kalyani also said that since Bipathu is from Dubai, her accent in the film was not a problem.
Kalyani also said in the interview that there were some factors that made her come to Thallumala. Once we do a character in a film and make it successful, people come up with many stories in the same genre. They come saying that they want that mannerism.
When we do, we are likely to be stereotyped. But when this character in Thallumala came up, I agreed without thinking about anything else. Beepathu is not my personality. She doesn’t wear the same clothes I wear. Everything was different.
Thallumala is not just a mass masala movie. It is a commercial film. A Khalid Rahman commercial film would be better. Even him explaining a scene is awesome. There is a visual telling. It is terribly beautiful.
While going to shoot Pathu’s style and swag intro scene, I was told that Molly wanted full swag. The shoot was in Dubai. There is a room covered with a full bag and shoes. There was a space. Khalid Rehman and Ashiq Usman are talking to each other when I touch up. ‘ Then they are asking each other whether they will get it or not. No, sometimes it is said that the child will be bitten.
When I asked about it, he said there was nothing. So when I looked, all the space in that room was covered with bags and shoes. A small space is visible on one side. When asked why, they said, no, a black panther dog would come there. Thought it would come today. But the guy is quite aggressive. So, for the time being, I shot it alone and said that I will place it here. I wondered who would think of such a thing (laughter), says Kalyani.
