A group of fraudsters managed to simulate a girl’s voice using artificial intelligence techniques, in an attempt to delude her mother into kidnapping her and asking for a million dollar ransom.
After reporting to the police:
- He discovered that the girl had not been kidnapped in the first place.
- The girl was present in a public place for skating
- Everything that happened was a scam.
- “I believed the fact that she was my daughter and I felt so much fear,” said mother Jennifer DeStefano.
- She added, “I received a call from an unknown number. I did not want to answer first, but I answered because my daughter was on a ski trip, and she might need something.”
- She continued: I heard my daughter’s voice screaming and crying, and the fraudster began threatening that he would transfer her to Mexico if I did not respond to his drum.
- She continued, “At first he asked for $1 million, but then reduced the number to $50,000 after I told him I didn’t have the money.”
After contacting the police, it was found that her daughter was safe and sound on the ski trip.
It turned out later that the girl’s voice had been simulated using artificial intelligence techniques for the purpose of fraud.
