MEXICALI, BC- In order not to expose the entitlement to COVID-19 infections and avoid unnecessary crowds in the Family Medicine Unit (UMF) No. 5 of the Ejido Nuevo León in Mexicali, Telephone Medical Assistance was put into operation that he is cared for by a doctor assigned to it, informed the director of the UMF, Dr. Cynthia Vázquez Cervantes.
The director explained that through this strategy, which has a telephone line, patients are attended days prior to their appointment, with doubts about symptoms, appointments are scheduled to refill their prescriptions, mainly the beneficiaries with controlled diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, medical appointments are also scheduled for the administration of vaccines and clinical tests, and they are called to give them their results or to find out how their health is at home.
This care strategy, he assured, has been very good, because patients do not have to wait a long time to be seen by their family doctor, the family member arriving directly to their consultation for treatment, laboratory requests , reference sheets or rest of management established by the Doctor in advance.
He added that there is a constant flow of care in the clinics, which has allowed that there is no delay in care, in the channeling of patients to Second Level of Hospital Care and in the filling of prescriptions.
The doctor pointed out that UMF No. 5 serves more than 11 thousand people from the ejidos Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Jalapa, Veracruz, Chihuahua, Tlaxcala and the population called Estación Delta.
The Telephone Medical Attention operates from Monday to Friday in the morning shift (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), because it is the only one that the UMF has, and more than 60 calls are made daily; although on Fridays these are doubled because appointments are scheduled for consultations on Saturdays and the Monday of the following week.
The number of this Telephone Medical Attention of the UMF No. 5 in the Nuevo León ejido in Mexicali is 686 523 0161, concluded Dr. Vázquez Cervantes.
The strategy adds to the range of alternatives that the Mexican Institute of Social Security is currently operating, favoring non-face care of the beneficiaries, in order to reduce the risk for susceptible patients or vulnerable population and for the Institute’s workers, such as the Call Center (800 68 12525), Telephone Medical Guidance (800 22 22668), Digital and Internet Medical Appointment, Remote monitoring of patients with COVID-19 and Digital Consultation in Family Medicine Units.
