They plan to incorporate technology and a unified center for river controls

Asunción, IP Agency.- The naval prefect general of the Paraguayan Navy, Oscar Chamorro, indicated that it is planned to have a unified support and control center to improve inter-institutional coordination with regard to controls on the Paraguay-Paraná waterway.

In this center, signals from surveillance drones, as well as thermal cameras and other devices, will be received. The drones will be received soon, he told Paraguay TV.

“All this will come together in a unified center to better coordinate,” he said about the work carried out by the National Navy, the Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad), the National Police and the Customs Directorate.

The main controls are against drug trafficking that occurs on the waterway. “We aim to evolve with the implementation of certain technologies that will help us in controls and be perfectly auditable, without hindering international trade that is now being affected by the downturn,” he declared.

Regarding smuggling, the prefect indicated that a decrease in this crime is observed in the statistics, in addition to the decrease in price competitiveness in Argentina, the main source.
