Deputies of the local Congress proposed declaring March 28 as “Deshilado Day”; Likewise, declare unraveling as material and intangible cultural heritage of the state of Hidalgo, with which they seek that the state government contributes to preserving this technique in addition to promoting it with new generations.

In their argument, the legislators pointed out that embroidery and unraveling are artisanal clothing techniques that involve intergenerational knowledge and that serve as a means of subsistence for those who work on it. “There is a record that the tradition of unraveling dates back to the colonial era, which mixes indigenous icons with European techniques, where women applied this technique for personal use and for garments made for their family, however, it was later used as a means to generate income through its commercialization,” they said.

And they added that unlike embroidery, fraying is worked on a type of fabric such as poplin, cotton blanket, linen, polyester or cotton, and they highlighted that the initiative is considered an alternative for the dissemination of the fraying producers in the state is to consider a commemorative day to preserve their generational techniques in the management of textiles and also as a means to expand the opportunities to market their products in the state.

Furthermore, as it is considered material and intangible cultural heritage, the government must develop strategies for its preservation, conservation and dissemination in the entity, generating the probability of expanding the programs aimed at this sector and improving its income in the short and medium term.
