(CNN Español) — The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Honduras declared inadmissible an amparo appeal filed by the defense of former President Juan Orlando Hernández once morest his extradition to the United States, reported Melvin Duarte, spokesman for the Judiciary. Therefore, the entire process of extradition of the former ruler remains firm.

The former president’s lawyers had filed the appeal on March 29. The US justice demands Hernández to face charges related to drug trafficking. A day before, the plenary of 15 magistrates of the Court ratified the ruling of a natural judge so that Hernández is extradited.

Duarte added that now only the administrative procedures remain, which include sending the file to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry out the extradition, a procedure that can last hours or days.

Juan Orlando Hernández has pleaded not guilty on several occasions to the charges brought once morest him by the US justice system, and has been held since February 15 at the Honduran National Directorate of Special Forces.
