What can a newborn baby be worth? Obviously, in India, it is worth a new iPhone 14 and some city trips in the south of the country.
This is a rather sordid story that might have turned into a tragedy. In India, a family was able to do the unthinkable to get a simple iPhone 14.
In this country of 1.4 billion people, the iPhone 14 costs 79,900 rupees (€880), the equivalent of two months’ average salary, which is 46,375 rupees. It is therefore impossible for the majority of Indians to obtain the precious Apple smartphone.
And yet, a couple from south-east India who are not financially well off managed to afford it. For this, he sold his 8-month-old baby and was even ready to sell the 7-year-old girl, reports the DailyO.
With the sum, the couple therefore bought the iPhone 14, but was also able to afford several trips to the Bengal region, while doing Reels and Stories on Instagram. It was while watching these videos and having noticed that the baby had disappeared that a neighbor alerted the authorities. The mother was finally arrested, along with the woman who had bought the baby. The father is still wanted.
