They took a dead man to collect his pension? Unusual case investigated by authorities | World

Did two men take another person’s body to a post office to collect his pension, or did the death occur on the spot? The Irish Police announced that they are investigating this case registered in the city of Carlow.

According to local media, authorities are investigating whether Declan Haughney, the dead man’s nephew, and a friend took the body of Peadar Doyle to a post office in Carlow, to collect his monthly pension money.

The friend, identified as Gareth Coakley, told the newspaper Sunday World that Mr. Doyle “was alive when they left the house”.

The two men had previously asked office employees if they could collect the pension for them, stating that Doyle was ill, but were told no.

“We had to pick him up and take him to the post office, but he didn’t get a chance to claim his money”, affirmed the friend, denying flatly that the death had occurred in advance.

“He probably died in the post office, I think he fell towards where the ice cream machine is,” he noted.

The post-mortem examination of the deceased, who was 66 years old, ruled out that he died under “suspicious circumstances”. However, it is estimated that his death occurred 3 hours before the incident, recorded on Friday, January 21, 2022.

The Irish Police explained in a statement that they are investigating the events that occurred at the scene, “related to the recent death of the man.”

According to the Irish Times newspaper, the deceased lived about 500 meters from the post office and the Police are investigating “his condition” when he was taken from home.

In addition, Peadar Doyle’s nephew, who would have been attacked after what happened with his uncle, carried the coffin at the funeral and, in dialogue with the Irish Mirror , said he now believes his family member would have died before reaching the post office.

Likewise, he denied that he had the intention of robbing his uncle, because, in addition to being the person who raised him, they lived together and shared expenses.
