A Dutch politician, Thierry Baudet, passing through Ghent for a conference, was attacked this Thursday evening. A political opponent hit him in the head. The attacker was quickly knocked to the ground and taken away by the police.
The man shouted “Nei Facismo”, or “no fascism”, in Italian, according to our colleagues from Le Soir. Baudet immediately went inside the UGent campus. A system has been deployed around the building where the conference is located. Thierry Baudet is a member of the political party “Forum voor democratie”, a party generally situated between the right and the far-right on the political spectrum.
At the same time, a static protest action once morest the arrival of the politician began under the stadhal of Ghent.
