ThinkPad PCs adopt a 16:10 screen to improve your productivity

Inherited from television, the 16:9 format is not the most suitable for office automation on PC. This is why the new ThinkPad PCs go to 16:10.

The legendary ThinkPad range has existed for over 30 years now, and it continues to evolve to improve the productivity of its regulars. As evidenced by its recent move to a 16:10 screen format, more suitable for office tasks.

Two 16-inch models inherit this format, and are available for purchase on the Lenovo website:

A 16:10 screen, what difference does it make?

It’s now a tradition: almost all laptops come with a 16:9 screen. A historic format, inherited from television, and first designed to consume video programs. This image proportion was never designed for productivity.

It is only very recently that manufacturers have initiated a change in the format of PC screens. Some brands, like Lenovo and its ThinkPad, now offer 16:10 panels. The width does not change, while the display space is more generous in height, by 120 pixels precisely.

This small difference is very useful when you use your computer to browse the internet, browse spreadsheets, write text, etc. More information is displayed on the screen, visible at a glance, without the need to scroller.

For videos, generally in 16:9, the display area is the same. The horizontal black bands will simply be thicker.

ThinkPad E16 Gen 1: a classic revisited

The ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 inherits the iconic look of the series: a timeless design with a graphite black chassis, and the iconic trackpoint red located in the keyboard. But don’t be fooled by appearances, this isn’t necessarily a computer aimed at corporate IT departments.

With its large 16-inch screen, generous sound trackpad and its rich connectivity, it is an excellent PC intended for nomadic workers and students. On the edges of the device, there is a USB-C port (Thunderbolt 4), 2 USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port and even an Ethernet port.

Available from only 908 euros, Lenovo’s models allow you to choose from a multitude of different configurations, ranging from Intel Core i3 to i7. The screen definition ranges from 1920 × 1200 pixels to 2560 × 1600 pixels, while the SSD storage is between 256 GB and 1 TB. Lenovo provides you with the box, and it’s up to you to customize it according to your needs.

ThinkBook 16 Gen 6 : l’ultrabook sauce ThinkPad

And ultrabook ultra-wide, here is Lenovo’s proposal with its ThinkBook 16 Gen 6. This laptop PC is also equipped with a large 16-inch screen in 16:10 format, ideal for office use. The fact remains that its chassis measures only 17.5 millimeters in height, for a weight of approximately 1.7 kilos, thus facilitating its mobility.

Despite a “new generation” design, the ThinkBook retains the DNA of the range: reliability and security. ThinkBooks can be equipped (depending on the version) with a fingerprint sensor, an infrared camera and a chip dedicated to encryption of stored data. All housed in a solid shell designed to withstand extreme conditions.

Finally, the large format of the ThinkBook 16 allows it to be used optimally on the move. The keyboard occupies a large space, to benefit from large keys, while the trackpad expanded allows you to do without a mouse. The connectivity is also extremely generous: USB-A (x2), USB-C (x2), HDMI 2.1, memory card readers, jack and RJ-45 port… Everything you need so you don’t have to carry a hub with you .

Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 6s equipped with AMD Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 processors are available from 919 euros.
