Fans of furniture assembly will appreciate. The Swedish company, Luvly, aims to create a small electric car kit. The daring project has a name: Luvly O.

The company claims to “save up to 80% energy during production as well as during the operation of the vehicle”, compared to “conventional” electric vehicles.

Reduce the carbon footprint

At a time when the SUV is very (too?) present on our roads, this car, beyond its electric side, offers reduce carbon footprint in its manufacture.

Indeed, the kit concept had an ecological objective before becoming an unusual subject: being able to deliver the Luvly flat.

Typically in the automotive industry, cars come fully assembled from the factory. They are shipped like this. With the Luvly O, the Swedish company wants to be able to stack them in containers to send as many as possible while reducing the carbon footprint. This was explained by the CEO of the company to Wallpaper, a Swedish newspaper.

The cars will be shipped as flat packs for local assembly, which will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the whole operation.

Concretely, you will not be able to assemble this car yourself. It will have to be assembled in local factories.

What are its characteristics ?

With its license-free car look, the Luvly O is mainly intended for urban journeys. She only has one 100 km range and an estimated top speed of approximately 90 km/h.

The 2.27 m and 400 kg car can carry two people and has a trunk that can carry a large shopping bag.

The production of this car is planned later in the year. Its price will be around 10 000 euros.

Is this car safe?

Considering its design, size and weight, this is a legitimate question. Are we safe inside this car?

Luvly answers this question by specifying to build their vehicles “like race cars”. Include with “energy absorbers” and a “sandwich composite safety shell” to protect passengers.

A composite with a sandwich structure is the assembly of two thin skins on a “core”, another compound which holds the two skins together. Let’s imagine: you put two plates on one side and a softer material between the two to form a single, thicker component. It is rigid, light and inexpensive.
