“This is by far the toughest boss”, this Diablo 4 enemy can kill in one hit and players can’t believe it

Put away your Uber Lilith, Uber Duriel and company, we have a new entrant in the race for the hardest hitting boss in Diablo 4. And it’s definitely not the one you’re thinking of. You may have the best equipment in the game, but be careful or you die!

The rest after this ad

Some players have wondered if something has changed with a certain boss you encounter in Nightmare Dungeon in Diablo 4. As this nasty creature probably has the most powerful spell in the game, capable of killing you in one hit if you don’t avoid it, regardless of your equipment. But the problem is that this was not the case before the last update. We’re trying to see things more clearly.

The Drowned Mermaid, the most powerful entity in Diablo 4?

No, we’re exaggerating. In any case, the Drowned Mermaid, a boss that you will encounter in the Ruins of Ghoa and the Sailor’s Refuge, now has an ability capable of one-shotting you regardless of your equipment. So strong that on Reddit, a player wondered if it had received any changes, because it seems much more punishing than before…

The Drowned Mermaid’s puddles now seem to kill me in one hit, even with my shields activated. I never had any problems in the past and I could tank her easily before killing her. Now if I’m in there when she throws them…I die.

In the comments, we seem to agree that this boss is the toughest of all the Nightmare Dungeons:

  • “This is by far the toughest of the Nightmare Dungeons. I can tank all the other level 100 bosses easily, but its puddles will always kill me in one hit even with 18k HP, 13k armor, max resistances and 40% damage reduction.”

Even though puddles are fairly easy to avoid, it still seems strange that this ability among many others is the only one capable of melting any character. Has a change really taken place regarding the Drowned Mermaid?

Maybe just a bug?

Indeed, according to the latest patch notes, nothing to report concerning the famous Drowned Mermaid. Several players report seeing these puddles melt after adding to their respective equipment… damage reduction. Weird. A bug at this level or perhaps at the level of the recently identified vampiric powers? Or maybe just a change to the boss not listed yet.

No one knows what the Drowned Mermaid ate, but be careful the next time you cross her path, and be sure to avoid her puddles or you risk getting a one-shot!
