How did this piece get there?
This piece of jewelry bears the name “Atallah’s Cross” and the signature of the famous British house Garrard.
It takes the form of a white gold pendant decorated with square amethyst stones and set with diamonds, with a total weight of approximately 5.25 carats.
And Sotheby’s auction house offered this piece for sale at an auction held in London last week, where a representative of the American star Kim Kardashian was able to get it for $ 200,000 after bids that included 4 different investors and an amount that amounted to twice the amount that was destined to be sold before the auction.
Not the first time
However, this piece of jewelry remained in the possession of the Garrard House since its design in the year 1920 until it was sold in the year 1980 to the Palestinian-British businessman Naim Atallah, who kept it until his death in the year 2021. Atallah was associated with friendship with Princess Diana, and he lent her this necklace to wear on various occasions. Most notably when she attended a charity party to support the Birthright Foundation, which is concerned with protecting the rights of women during pregnancy and childbirth. That was in October of 1987, and this necklace was coordinated with a purple velvet dress, signed by British designer Catherine Walker.
