The TNI revealed the beginning of the violent acts committed by TNI soldiers against members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB Papua) Definus Kogoya which went viral on social media.

“What the public needs to know is why Definus Kogoya was persecuted or violent acts were committed against him, is that Definus Kogoya was caught following a patrol by TNI-Polri security forces,” said Kadispenad Brigadier General Kristomei Sianturi, Monday (25/3).

The initial chronology of the incident was that Definus was arrested by members of the TNI because there was information from the public stating that there would be a burning of the health center in Puncak Regency.

“Then there was an act of violence. “This is what we regret that the TNI AD never teaches, never approves of acts of violence when asking for information,” said Kristomei.

“This is a violation of the law and we will be prosecuted according to applicable laws,” he added.

Kristomei claims that the Indonesian Army has equipped its soldiers to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP) rules of engagements of humanitarian law in order to carry out operational tasks in the field.

Kristomei also explained that the acts of violence committed by TNI soldiers from Infantry Battalion 300/Raider were currently being investigated further.

His party will find out further whether the torture carried out by the TNI soldier was on personal initiative or whether there was an order from his superiors to carry out this violence.

“Later we will see the connection or cause and effect relationship as to why he did that. “And that will later determine what type of punishment will be given to the soldier,” he said.
