This is the company behind BMW’s chameleon color

Ten years later, that much can be said of these great ambitions, E Ink has not quite fulfilled. At least the company is now the undisputed market leader in the field of electronic paper: Almost all modern electronic reading devices use the technology to which the Taiwanese holding company holds the rights. It is also occasionally used in smartwatches and cell phones. Between 2016 and 2020, E Ink Holdings (EIH) had annual sales between 13.6 and 15.3 billion US dollars worldwide.

In the future, the customizable car interface that BMW presented at CES will also bring money into the coffers. The “iX Flow” concept combines “the digital paper from E Ink with the intelligent design algorithms from BMW”, says the e-paper group. The in-house developers worked closely with their colleagues from Munich.
