This town in Saône-et-Loire bans the sale of nitrous oxide from October 1

The town hall of Autun (Saône-et-Loire) issued an order from October 1, 2023 until May 31, 2024 to prohibit the sale of nitrous oxide, reports The Saône-et-Loire Journal. The cartridges of this product, generally used in whipped cream siphons, have been used in an indirect manner for several years for its euphoric effects, despite the risks of neurological following-effects.

Consumption prohibited for minors

“What we found on the public highway alerted us,” argued Mayor Vincent Chauvet. Cartridges are found increasingly on public roads, in parks or in gardens. At the same time, alerts from parents of students would also be raised, especially since the consumption of this product, over the counter, would be particularly popular among young people.

The city’s businesses therefore have until October 1 to sell off their stocks. This decree also prohibits the consumption of nitrous oxide by inhalation for minors on various sites in the municipality.
