In the entire year of 2022 there were 14,643 entry and approach bans.

According to the ministries, there was an increase in security police case conferences from 25 in 2020 to 209 in the previous year. The departments expect a further increase in 2023; there were 200 case conferences by November 1st. In addition, since September 1, 2021, around 26,300 people at risk have been assigned mandatory counseling in the counseling centers.

The government believes it is on the right track and has, among other things, increased its budget, increased the number of prevention officers, financed protective and transitional housing and anchored protection against violence in judicial training. The ministers once again emphasized the importance of implementing violence prevention clinics: Pilot projects are to be started by the end of the year, and ultimately they should be available across the board. More budget has been decided for this.

26 Femicide

However, women’s rights organizations had already expressed strong criticism on Friday: So far this year, 26 femicides have been committed – a similar number to last year at this point – and 41 attempted murders. The results are “disastrous again this year,” stated the Association of Autonomous Austrian Women’s Shelters (AÖF). “That means the measures are not effective! They protect the perpetrators of violence, but not the many women and children affected,” it said. “The government is constantly coming up with new measures, but unless the problem is tackled at its roots, women will die and children will be left severely traumatized.”
