This year, Easter eggs and bunnies are on average 10% more expensive, reports TF1. An increase explained by the increase in the cost of raw materials and energy.

In supermarkets, the price increase concerns all Easter products. According to our colleagues, the price of eggs to hide in the garden has increased by 6% and that of rabbits of 200 grams by 5%. This increase is even more significant among chocolate makers, because they make their chocolate in smaller quantities. “We are already taking a little from our margins, we don’t have much choice, we are forced to increase prices“, laments to TF1 Isabelle Béliarde, baker in Bretteville-sur-Laize, in Calvados.
Making chocolate is very gas and electricity intensive, and the ingredients have also become more expensive in a year. “Last year, cocoa increased by 8%, sugar by 75%, packaging by 30% and energy by 150%, all costs increased and we cannot absorb everything“, tells BFMTV Gilles Rouvières, secretary general of the chocolate union. Despite the price, consumers do not intend to deprive themselves of chocolate. “I may buy a smaller quantity, but I will buy some“, assures a woman to TF1. “It’s not going to slow down, we’re going to look a little better at where we buy them and what we buy“, adds another customer.
