But the Ukraine war changes everything for him too: The 59-year-old has postponed his upcoming tour of Russia. Instead, he now enlightens Russian fans about what is really happening in Ukraine.

A Russian fan club leader wrote to him and expressed her regret that his concerts would not take place because of a “small conflict”, Anders told the RTL interview. Thomas Anders does not want to let Russian lies about the Ukraine war stand

The war in Ukraine continues to be hushed up in the Russian media. Last week, the Russian parliament voted in favor of a law that would punish those who spread alleged misinformation about the Russian armed forces with up to 15 years in prison. This also includes calling the Russian attack a war.

Ukraine-Russia War: A Ukrainian soldier smokes a cigarette

Thomas Anders opposes the propaganda and uses his popularity to do educational work. He didn’t want to let the trivializing statements stand, he explained in an interview with T-Online: “Should I alienate fans with my ‘enlightenment mail’, then unfortunately that’s the case. But I won’t allow myself to stand up for my values and attitude. ”

Hardly any neutral information in Russia

Many Russians have no access to neutral information, and the country’s media have been brought into line. “I’m an entertainer, I don’t do politics. But I know that the Russian people don’t want this war. The Russian political leadership is at war with Ukraine or the Ukrainian leadership. I doubt that the Russian people really know what’s going on,” said Different RTL.

He makes a point of distinguishing between the Russian leadership around President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people. He made that clear in his reply to the disappointed fan club chairman: “It was very important for me to say that it wasn’t ‘the Russians’ who attacked Ukraine. It’s the Russian government. The Russian people can nothing for it. It’s not a warmonger.”
