The renovation work lasted a good year, and on Saturday the ceremonial opening of the newly designed monastery shop, including a new restaurant, will take place. For the first time, the in-house Trappist beer is served from the barrel directly in Engelszell Abbey on the Danube. But the happy event has a bitter followingtaste: Three days before, on Wednesday evening, Abbot General Dom Bernardus Peeters announced that the Trappists were leaving the last German-speaking male monastery.
