  • Mill Fire in northern US state is spreading rapidly.

The Siskiyou County Fire Department in northern California warned Friday that the Mill Fire was spreading at a “dangerous” rate. The US broadcaster ABC showed pictures of several houses on fire.

Authorities issued evacuation orders for towns including Weed, Lake Shastina and Edgewood. “Immediate danger to life,” said the order. Siskiyou County is a sparsely populated forest region in far northern California on the Oregon state border. The area has been hit hard by wildfires in recent years.

California and parts of the western states of Nevada and Arizona are currently suffering from what is known as a heat dome. A high pressure area has settled over the region, with temperatures in excess of 38 degrees in many areas. For the weekend, temperatures of well over 40 degrees are predicted for some densely populated areas around Los Angeles.
