Damascus – In southern Syria, thousands of people once again protested against the government of ruler Bashar al-Assad. Between 3,500 and 4,000 people took part in the rally in the provincial capital Suwaida on Friday, a demonstrator told the AFP news agency by telephone. Another activist made similar estimates. It was the largest rally since new protests began in government-controlled Suwaida province last month. On Wednesday, three people were injured by gunfire in Suwayda when demonstrators tried to close an office of the ruling Ba’ath party. Activists blamed Baath Party members for the violence.
