At a time when Twitter is already faltering, Mark Zuckerberg has dealt yet another blow to Elon Musk, the tech billionaire’s rivalry, with the launch of Threads, a long-awaited companion to Instagram that takes on Twitter.

Yesterday, Zuckerberg wrote in his first post on the application, accompanied by a fire emoji, “Let’s do this. Welcome to Threads. He said the app recorded five million subscriptions in the first four hours. The app is very similar to Twitter, and allows for posts that users can like, repost, and reply to, but it doesn’t include any direct message capabilities. Posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos and videos up to five minutes long.
