A whirlwind start, then the carnage. After having achieved the feat of bringing together more than 100 million subscribers in less than a week, the Threads social network launched in early July by Meta is already neglected by its members. According to analyst firm Similarweb, the number of Android users of the Threads app peaked at 49.3 million daily active users worldwide on July 7 before dropping to 10.3 million on August 7. That’s a drop of 79%, just a few weeks after its launch. In the United States, Threads peak usage was 2.3 million daily active users on July 7, up from around 576,000 on August 7.
The average time daily active users spent on the app also dropped, from around 14 minutes globally on July 7 to 3 minutes a month later. By comparison, rival X (formerly Twitter) has over 100 million daily active users on Android alone, and they regularly spend around 25 minutes on it a day.
