German referee threatened after an error against Dortmund

The German referee who admitted having made a mistake in Borussia Dortmund’s 1-1 draw in Bochum on Friday at the start of the 30th day of the German football championship filed a complaint after receiving threats targeting him as well than his family.
German media report that Sascha Stegemann has been placed under judicial protection.

A recognized mistake

The Federation releases its referee
In a statement released on Saturday, the German FA said the TV images showed that Stegemann should have awarded a penalty to Borussia after a foul on striker Karim Adeyemi in the Bochum penalty area.
Stegemann, in an interview with the daily Bild on Saturday, admitted his mistake and regretted that the video referee in charge of the VAR did not suggest that he go and consult the images.
BVB, who were one point ahead of Bayern at the start of the 30th day, are now second, two points behind the Munich club. There are four days left until the end of the season.
Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke stressed on Sunday that “threats and animosity will not be tolerated”.
