The Colombian Government confirmed the death of three Colombians in an armed attack on Ukrainian territory, during the conflict that is taking place between the military forces of that country and those of Russia.
The deceased were in the 49th Infantry Battalion called “Carpathian Sich” and were killed in an attack on March 30 in Terny, Kramatorsk, located in the Donetsk region.
According to official reports, due to the bombardments and the destruction of the trenches, it was only possible to recover the bodies on April 15.
The Colombian Foreign Ministry is advancing the corresponding procedures for the repatriation of the deceased and has been in contact with the families of the deceased to inform them about the process of repatriation of the bodies or what concerns their cremation.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets the death of the compatriots and will be attentive to the development of each one of the cases, taking the pertinent steps to accompany the relatives of the affected compatriots,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Although the identities of the deceased have not yet been revealed, the embassy in Poland and the Consulate detailed that they are waiting to hear the decisions made by the families to carry out the procedures that they consider pertinent for the delivery of the bodies.
