The mitigating circumstances of those convicted in the case of 2.1 tons of heroin were revoked – the three Turks and the Iraqi are missing
Three Greeks convicted in the case of transporting 2.1 tons of heroin on the ship “Noor 1” returned to prison, following the decision of the Supreme Court to retry the much-lauded case at the Five-member Criminal Appeal Court of Piraeus, as the court decision regarding the mitigating factors they had been granted.
Yesterday, Giorgos Kartsonis was arrested, who had leased to the members of the ring a warehouse in Koropi where a ton of the “white death” cargo was transported. He was initially sentenced to 18 years in prison, but the appellate court granted him the mitigation of good behavior following the act and for this reason his sentence was reduced to 13 years in prison and he was released on parole.
However, following the recent decision of the Supreme Court, which accepted the appeal once morest the decision of the appellate court regarding the granting of the mitigating factors, the first court decision was revived and consequently the 18-year sentence imposed on G. Kartsonis. Following this development, police officers from the Attica Security Investigations Department handcuffed the convicted man, who returned to prison until he was retried. It was preceded by the arrest of the charterer of the ship “Noor 1” Giorgos Bourdouvalis two weeks ago, in Vonitsa, who was also released on parole from the Patras Prison where he was held.
Bourdouvalis was sentenced at first instance to life imprisonment, which was “broken” in the Piraeus Five-member Court of Criminal Appeals, as he was recognized with the mitigating factor of good behavior following the act, as a result of which his sentence was reduced to 18 years in prison. He too has been walking free in recent months with the parole process. After the appellate decision was overturned, the first-trial life sentence was revived and for this reason Giorgos Bourdouvalis was arrested on April 3rd in Vonitsa and returned to Patras Prison.
Efthymios Giannousakis – in whose ex-wife’s house, in Psychiko, half a ton of heroin was found -, who was also sentenced to life in the first degree and 18 years in prison by the appellate court, returned to Korydallou Women’s Prisons. After the issuance of the decision of the Supreme Court, Eth. Giannousakis appeared voluntarily in the courts of Piraeus and was taken to prison.
They are hiding
Three Turks who would have packed the cargo of “white death” and an Iranian who was on board the ship, who have disappeared following their release, remain elusive in the “Noor 1” case. According to information, they have fled abroad or are hiding from the authorities. The decision of the Supreme Court by which the trial for the sentences of the convicted should be repeated has been forwarded to the Piraeus Court of Appeal since April 12 and is expected to be set for trial within the next period of time.
