The release of three hostages – in addition to Olivier Vandecasteele – is part of the deal that saw the exchange of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian terrorist convicted by Belgium. Who are they ? And why were they serving a prison sentence?

Kamran Ghaderi, Massud Mosaheb and a man of Danish nationality, here are the 3 hostages released by Iran.

Kamran Ghaderi is an Austrian business leader detained for over 4 years. He was arrested in 2016 during a business trip to Iranian soil. Suspected of espionage and collaboration with the American government, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Years he spent in Evin prison. He will be kept there in solitary confinement for almost a year.

Massud Mosaheb is 73 years old. This mechanical engineer, also Austrian, has been detained for more than 7 years. He was arrested in Tehran in January 2019, while accompanying Austrian scientists. Accused of spying for Israel and Germany, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which he also served in Evin prison. He was allegedly subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

The latest hostage freed is a Danish man arrested in November 2022. He is accused of participating in meetings threatening Iran’s national security as well as the women’s rights protests that followed the death of Mahsa Amini.
