Three murders and six attempts in a Belgian nursing home

Three murders and six attempted murders were committed in a nursing home in the town of Oostrozebeke, in West Flanders, reveal in an investigation published Wednesday Het Laatste Nieuws and VTM Nieuws. The victims were poisoned with insulin. If the murders have stopped, no perpetrator has yet been identified.

The first case was in early July 2020. For about a year, several residents of the Rozenberg Residential Care Center were overdosed with insulin. Three people were thus killed. An 87-year-old man survived two poisonings, but eventually succumbed to the third attempt.

An investigation under embargo

None of the victims needed insulin. The care facility contacted the police, who remain to this day with few elements. Nevertheless, all staff members as well as the families of the patients were interviewed.

The injections suddenly stopped in August 2021. The murders and attempted murders went under the radar for two years. The investigation exceptionally took place under embargo.

Due to the secrecy of the investigation, the nursing home did not want to comment on the facts. “We hope that the tribunal will soon be able to conclude its work“, she simply declared.
