Timo Glock on Leclerc-Verstappen: This is how it goes on / Formula 1

Ferrari and Red Bull Racing were evenly matched in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, while the Italians were clearly ahead in Australia. Sky GP expert Timo Glock assesses the duel Leclerc against Verstappen.

Ferrari drove in its own league in Australia, which is also recognized by 91-time GP participant Timo Glock (40), today the Formula 1 expert of our German colleagues from Sky. The man from Lindenfels says: “Ferrari clearly has the strongest and most consistent package, which has worked very well on the previous track variants and is gentle on all tire compounds. The Scuderia always gets the tires in the optimal working window.»

“At the weekend in Australia we saw that all the other teams are weak in this area – especially the Red Bull Racing cars, which were only able to keep up with Leclerc’s pace at the beginning, but then quickly got graining on the left front. This graining of the tire surface was not seen at Ferrari.”

There is also a lot of praise for the driver from the German tenth in the 2008 and 2009 World Championship: “Charles Leclerc also showed a very strong performance and kept the upper hand in all phases of the Grands Prix – apart from a small mistake when he Start had understeer when accelerating out and Max Verstappen was able to attack him. The world champion only came that close to the Monegasque this one time.”

The question is: how is this going to continue? Timo Glock believes: “At Red Bull Racing, mistakes have to be eliminated. It is necessary to analyze why this is the case. This is the worst possible start to the World Championship for RBR because they lost too many points in the first three races.”

“Understandably, Max Verstappen reacted annoyed to this topic in Melbourne. But he has to be patient now. He has a car that works well and that he can fight for the world title with. But for that Red Bull Racing has to solve the technical problems as soon as possible. »
