The 29-year-old actor stunned the audience and cemented his place in awards season by winning Best Male Actor for his remarkable portrayal of musician Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
Congratulations on your well-deserved SAG Award, Timothée. What was going through your mind as your name was called out?
Thank you so much. It was truly a shock. I mean, I was up against some incredible actors, including Adrien Brody. I wasn’t expecting it at all. As my name was called, it was a mix of disbelief, gratitude, and excitement. It’s an honor to receive this recognition from my peers.
Your acceptance speech was heartfelt and humble. Can you tell us more about your journey playing Bob Dylan and why this role was so important to you?
Playing Bob Dylan was an incredible challenge and an immense learning experience. I’ve always admired his artistry and the impact he’s had on popular culture. To delve into his life, his music, and his perspective, was a journey of discovery that required 5 ½ years of my life. The dedication and passion I put into this role were unlike anything I’ve done before. It was more than just playing a character; it was about understanding an American icon and his meaning in our collective history.
Your speech also mentioned your pursuit of greatness. Can you elaborate on that? Do you feel a duty, at this stage of your career, to strive for excellence in every role you undertake?
Greatness, in this context, isn’t about being the best actor out there or winning all the awards. It’s about continuously challenging myself and pushing the boundaries of my craft. I want to play unique, fascinating characters that audiences can connect with. I want to be part of projects that make a difference, that start conversations, and that resonate with people. So, yes, I feel a responsibility to keep growing and evolving as an artist. I want to create meaningful work that will stand the test of time.
