Half of the Fontaine area, Genshin Impact’s newest region, is made up of water. With underwater exploration in mind, HoYoverse created several explorable underwater locations. With this in mind, with the help of Fontaine’s complete underwater map, this exploration guide was made.

Most of Fontaine’s underwater area that is explorable is in the ocean region. The reason for this is the need to have sufficient depth to allow diving. Upon meeting the requirements, the player can even explore underwater cave areas.

As the map of Fontaine’s underwater areas shows, there are very shallow regions while others have deep valleys. In these deeper locations, it is possible to collect different materials, find puzzles or discover caves. In fact, in update 4.1 of Genshin Impact there was an expansion of the underwater area to the north.

Other underwater areas of Fontaine
There are some locations in Fontaine that are smaller, but allow the player to dive in to explore. The first of these is Vila Maruse, in the Beryl region. This location is locked by the quest called “A Brush of Seafoam and Crimson”.

In the caves located on the west side of the Court of Fontaine, we have an underwater tunnel. They are linked to the global quest called “The Narzissenkreuz Adventure”.

The mid-ocean ruins will be unlocked by the Aqueous Tidemarks global quest.

In the Liffey region, Meropide Fortress will be unlocked during the Archon quest, Chapter 4, Act 3.

The underwater tunnels beneath the Liffey region will be discovered by passing through a tunnel east of the Millennial Pearly Seahorse boss area.

Tips for exploring Fontaine’s underwater areas
To make exploring Fontaine’s diverse underwater areas easier, we recommend players:
Pick up recovery orbs to recover your stamina. They are always surrounded by three yellow fish (screenshot on the right in the image below). Swim through the Hydro rings to increase speed. Be careful with the underwater towers (see them in the image below on the left side). If you find one, use the blue crab’s ability to destroy it. How to explore the underwater areas of Fontaine.
