Tiroler Tageszeitung, editorial, April 5, 2023 edition. By PETER NINDLER. “The anger at those up there”.

Innsbruck (OTS) No matter how good concepts and projects the political leaders in Tyrol can come up with, they ruin their credibility with questionable appointments, wasting money and high salaries in public companies.

Job swaps, high salaries and a waste of money: The image of the public sector as an entrepreneur is really not a good one, but it is confirmed again and again. And for the population, it’s mostly those up there who can fix it. No matter how ambitious and future-oriented the black-red government program may be, at the end of the day impressions count. Therefore, red-black in Tyrol must quickly get the curve, the government does not want to run head-on in a big trust debacle.
Habitat Tirol Holding, the parent company of Tirol archyde news, Agricultural Marketing and Location Agency, turns out to be a bloated decision-making apparatus in which the managers are more concerned with themselves than with a common goal. At the same time, it’s not easy for holding company director Josef Margreiter to be given a “bombshell contract” in the unfussy language of the common man, with all the perks, including an anniversary bonus, because his time as head of in the Tyrol is still included. Margreiter can be blamed for not meeting the targets, but the green-black government at the time gilded him. Therefore, neither of the two may slip into the victim role – neither the managing director of the holding company nor politicians.
The appointment of the new managing director at the non-profit Neue Heimat also becomes an oath of disclosure of how seriously Black and Red take objective appointments. Although it would require a so-called cooling-off phase for politicians so that there is no sudden change from the government bench to the manager’s chair, as is the case with the public construction company, former state councilor Hannes Tratter (VP) could land a volley there. With the application, he doesn’t exactly make it easy for his ÖVP either. Ultimately, there can only be losers: either Tratter, should it not work out, or the government.
The restructuring of the municipal association’s own service company GemNova, which has a liquidity requirement of 3.5 million euros, has long been a political tightrope act. The GemNova wanted to get involved in the competition for the communities, with the result that in the past it had to be fed with 1.3 million euros from the community compensation fund. Nevertheless, the ex-managing director was able to look forward to a princely 17,000 euros gross per month.
Politicians can no longer sugarcoat it. The solution would be simple: just make things better, more transparent and more economical in your company in the future.
