Tisza MP Apologizes After Alleged Insult to Fidesz Colleague in Parliament

Krisztián Kulcsár, a representative of the Tisza Party, issued an apology in the Hungarian Parliament on Tuesday after allegedly directing a vulgarity toward Sándor Lezsák during a speech by Anna Lezsák. The incident occurred during a debate regarding constitutional amendments.

In the political arena, a single incident can shift the momentum.

Narrative Leverage: Fidesz frames the incident as a symptom of a broader impulse within the Tisza ranks.

What Actually Happened in the Chamber

The incident unfolded during a session focused on constitutional modifications. Anna Lezsák, a Fidesz representative and daughter of Sándor Lezsák, was delivering a speech praising her father’s role in the 1989-90 regime change. She argued that the events following the April elections do not constitute a true regime change, but rather a regression toward pre-1990 dictatorship.

While the official parliamentary broadcast did not capture the audio, according to Miklós Panyi, a Fidesz representative, approximately two dozen lawmakers heard Kulcsár utter the phrase “kurva anyád” in reference to Sándor Lezsák. Kulcsár had previously attacked the Fidesz-KDNP administration, describing their 16-year tenure as a “one-man limited company” run with “organized crime methods.”

KDNP representative Csaba Latorcai demanded an apology, telling Kulcsár not to “mumble.” The resulting apology—”I was emotional… I didn’t mean it literally”—was delivered by Kulcsár.

The “Regime Change” Narrative

The term "rendszerváltás" (regime change) is the prize in this ideological contest.

By framing Kulcsár as an aggressor, Fidesz is attempting to paint the Tisza Party as an entity that “humiliates people,” a point Anna Lezsák hammered home when she stated she forgave him “as a Christian.”
