Another trade deadline passed, and while some names changed area codes, there are teams that asked for too much and will now be prisoners of their mistakes.

MIAMI — We have all played general managers in fiction, thanks to our fever for this beautiful sport.

And the most difficult thing is always knowing when to turn the page.

Finding that fine line when we can still get value for a player, while still respecting what he has meant to a particular franchise.

If it’s hard for us, when we don’t have to deal with people, imagine how hard it is for the leadership of a franchise.

Which brings us to the Tennessee Titans, who last week traded safety Kevin Byard, one of the franchise’s best players, to the Philadelphia Eagles.

They moved a player who will be in their “Ring of Honor” in the future, for practically nothing.

The message to the rest of the league was clear: We are open to negotiations, and we are thinking more about the future than the present.

The Eagles acquired Kevin Byard from the Titans in a trade and the safety debuted in Week 8, contributing 7 total tackles, 4 solo tackles and 3 assists and participating in all defensive snaps en route to the 38-31 victory over Washington. X: @Eagles

Running back Derrick Henry has been a stronghold for the Titans and has not only been one of the best running backs in the NFL for many years, but he was also the 2020 NFL Offensive Player.

In January, Henry turns 30; His style is very physical and he already has a lot of mileage on those wheels.

To top it all off, Henry is on an expiring contract, and I doubt the Titans will be willing to give him a lucrative future contract; I think Tyjae Spears is a star and should receive more carries.

There were plenty of interested teams, but the Titans informed both those franchises and Henry himself that they were not going to trade him.

A decision that, in my opinion, does not make much sense.

Will Levis was the starting quarterback for the Titans this past week, and while I understand that Henry is a bulwark and even the identity of their offense, the reality is that they can hardly have serious aspirations this season.

Tennessee wanted more than an average pick for Henry, and I respect that, but sometimes greed leads you to lose more than you thought.

And now there’s even a chance they could lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

Something similar happened with the Denver Broncos.

And don’t get me wrong. I understand that there are pieces that you want to keep in the future, because there is always the hope that you can build in the future even though your present is not the best.

In the Titans’ case, retaining a 30-year-old running back is not what the doctor ordered.

And in the case of Denver, they did not look closely in the mirror, nor did they realize that they are not a couple of pieces exchanged away from being protagonists.

I understand that Russell Wilson and his contract are getting the spotlight in Denver, but the reality is that the Broncos need a major facelift, and I don’t understand why they didn’t sell en masse before this trade deadline.

The only player I can understand they wanted to keep is Pat Surtain II, because he is young, and because he is already one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and plays a premium position.

The rest?

I would have moved them all at the indicated price.

Courtland Sutton, Justin Simmons, Jerry Jeudy, Josey Jewell, entre otros.

The Broncos defense has a lot of talent, but it has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, and head coach Sean Payton will want to put his own stamp on the squad before going down with the ship.

Or at least that’s what he should have done.

Whenever a trade deadline passes, we talk about winners and losers.

But sometimes, you can also lose through inaction, and that’s exactly the case with the Titans and Broncos, who seem doomed to the NFL’s fateful middle line.

That is, they won’t be bad enough to have draft picks that can alter the future of your franchise, nor good enough to dream of a Super Bowl.

Which brings us back to our original premise: you have to know when to let go of the rope.

And the Titans and Broncos failed miserably this year.

POWER 6

As I always say, it is never good to play every game. In other words, there are some that are better to pass up. For this reason, I decided to add this section, to reveal my six favorite teams with a betting line. Opinions are welcome, since the idea is to add an attribute that is beneficial for readers. The order of the teams is not random and the predictions do not affect the total statistics.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

ATLANTA FALCONS

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

CHICAGO BEARS

HOUSTON TEXANS

SUICIDE POOL, ‘ELIMINATOR CHALLENGE’

There are many of us who are in this type of competition. In this case the betting line does not matter. Simply do not repeat any team throughout each week. Of course, these forecasts will not affect the total statistics either. In parentheses, the teams chosen so far.

CLEVELAND BROWNS

FIXED WITH LINE OF BET

At the request of many, we added the fixed line bet starting in Week 11 of 2013.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

TEASER 3

I have always said that I am not a fan of teasers, since they come from the word tempt and are called “sucker bets”, but, at the request of several readers, we added this section. Here, as there are three teams, the line is modified by 6 points, but you must get all three correct to collect. Below, I name the three teams with the altered lines in parentheses.

MIAMI DOLPHINS (+8 and a half)

LOS ANGELES RAMS (+8 and a half)

CHICAGO BEARS (+11 and a half)

OVER/UNDER

At the request of several readers, we include a high and low match for each week.
