Tkachuk reportedly cut ties in Calgary

Matthew Tkachuk reportedly informed the Calgary Flames that he would not be signing a new deal with the club, several sources told The Athletic media.

The same sports news site says a trade involving the 24-year-old striker is imminent. And this a few days after losing maverick Johnny Gaudreau on the free agent market.

Teams in line to secure his services would be the St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars.

Remember that Tkachuk did not resort to arbitration to negotiate a new pact, he who is a free agent with compensation. Rather, it was the team itself that made the request to protect themselves from a hostile offer.

The American had by far the best campaign of his career in 2021-22, collecting no less than 104 points, including 42 goals, in 82 games. He also showed an impressive +57 differential.

In six seasons with the Flames, the American left winger has amassed 382 points in 431 games. Prior to his career-high last campaign, his best haul was 77 points in 2018-19.

Tkachuk was selected by the Flames with the sixth round of the 2016 draft.
