TNI Detains 13 Soldiers Suspected of Committing Violence against KKB in Papua – 2024-03-25 11:37:41

The TNI admitted that it had detained 13 suspect soldiers in the case of alleged abuse of a member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), Definus Kogoya in Papua.

Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Brigadier General Kristomei Sianturi, said that his party had carried out examinations of 42 soldiers in the torture case.

Of this number, it was indicated that 13 soldiers had carried out the abuse and were immediately detained at Pomdam III Siliwangi.

“Examinations have been carried out on 42 TNI soldiers and of the 42 soldiers, indications have been found that 13 soldiers actually committed acts of violence,” said Kristomei at the Sub Denma TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, Monday (25/3/2024).

Meanwhile, Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih Major General TNI Izak Pangemanan said that the actions carried out by the suspects had tarnished the good name of the TNI.

The two-star TNI general promised to investigate this case thoroughly.

Izak also apologized to all Papuan people for the torture incident.

“Once again, I apologize to all Papuan people for this incident and I promise that in the future I will increase supervision so that incidents like this do not happen again,” said Izak.

It is known that the video of the alleged abuse of a number of TNI soldiers went viral on social media. In the video, soldiers can be seen abusing one of the KKB members in a barrel filled with water. (Ykb/Z-7)
