Togo: a case of Lassa fever recorded

The Togolese government announced that it detected a case of the Lassa virus on February 26, 2022, announces a press release from the Togolese Ministry of Health, dated February 28, 2022.

“(…) This is a 35-year-old woman, residing in the Oti-Sud district (located in the Savanes region) who died of complications from the disease”, indicates the document. The Togolese State invited the populations “to be vigilant” and to “adopt the usual barrier measures”, in particular “wash your hands regularly, avoid any contact with the biological liquids of any suspicious or infected person, cook well and preserve food, avoid handling rodents”, among others.

Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic disease. It usually manifests as a high fever accompanied by several symptoms, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
