The Tokyo Stock Exchange was well oriented Monday morning, extending the upward trend on Wall Street on Friday, where investors awaited news of inflation in the United States and a monetary policy decision from the American Central Bank (Fed).

The flagship Nikkei index rose 0.41% to 32,397.54 points around 00:50 GMT, and the broader Topix index gained 0.49% to 2,235.15 points.

The main indices of the Wall Street Stock Exchange rose at the end of the week while operators awaited a monetary status quo from the Fed, whose decision is expected on Wednesday. It will be preceded by the publication on Tuesday of the CPI inflation index in the United States for May, which will provide information on price trends.

A monetary policy decision from the Bank of Japan was also expected on Friday, with observers believing that the institution should maintain its ultra-accommodative policy.

Eisai carried by the FDA

The action of the Japanese pharmaceutical group Eisai rose (+ 1.88% to 10,800 yen) after the unanimous vote on Friday of an advisory committee of the American Medicines Agency (FDA) paving the way for a wider authorization of its treatment. anti-Alzheimer Leqembi (lecanemab), co-developed with the American Biogen.

Since the beginning of the year, this drug has benefited from an accelerated registration procedure in the United States for patients who have not yet reached an advanced stage of this neurodegenerative disease, the causes of which are still poorly understood and against which the options therapies are still extremely limited.

On the side of currencies and oil

The yen was almost stable against the dollar, which was worth 139.36 yen around 00:55 GMT against 139.40 yen on Friday at 21:00 GMT.

The European currency retreated against the Japanese currency, one euro trading for 149.74 yen against 149.84 yen at the end of last week.

One euro was also trading for 1.0746 dollars against 1.0749 dollars on Friday at 9:00 p.m. GMT.

The oil market fell: around 00:45 GMT the barrel of American WTI dropped 0.47% to 69.84 dollars and the barrel of Brent from the North Sea yielded 0.52% to 74.40 dollars.
