Top 10 Canadian Cities with Affordable Homes Under $200,000: Quebec City Ranks High

Listings retailing for less than $200,000 are a real rarity across the country, but Quebec City manages to stand out among other major cities in the province.

According to a ranking by the firm “Point2Homes” published last June, 9.85% of homes for sale in Quebec had a price of less than $200,000.

In comparison, this proportion fell below 2% for the cities of Gatineau, Longueuil, Montreal and Laval.

In the case of Laval, only 0.15% of registrations were under the $200,000 mark.

In the country, only 15 of the 50 largest cities could boast of offering prices below $200,000 for certain listings, however totaling 1% of the total number of homes for sale.

For buyers looking for the best bargains, they must consider the Atlantic provinces.

In Cape Breton, the firm “Point2Homes” estimates the proportion of units selling for more than $200,000 at 55.47%.

This is the lowest proportion of all the cities analyzed, followed by Regina, Saskatchewan, and Saint John, New Brunswick.

In order to determine the top 10, the company specifies that it examined the median price of housing in the 100 most populous cities in Canada, before analyzing the housing retailing for less than $200,000 in them.

6. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (23.47% of dwellings)

7. Winnipeg, Manitoba (23.45% of dwellings)

8. Red Deer, Alberta (22.8% of dwellings)

9. Saint John of Newfoundland, Newfoundland and Labrador (13.46% of dwellings)

10. Quebec City (9.85% of dwellings)
