Apple held its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last Monday, and showcased several new products, such as the Mac Pro with the new M2 Ultra processor, the 15-inch MacBook Air laptop, and the long-awaited Vision Pro glasses. The WWDC conference was originally a conference for developers, and it is concerned with operating systems, and indeed Apple introduced the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating systems, along with the new watchOS, tvOS, and macOS operating systems.
Here we will take an early look at iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, to learn about the most prominent new features. Apple announced that the two systems will officially arrive in the fall. You can find the list of phones that will get iOS 17 from here. Both platforms will offer significant improvements, and new features all intended to make our daily lives and user experience easier. Here are 10 features we are waiting for from iOS 17 and iPadOS 17:
1. Change in call alert display

iOS 17 adds a new ability to customize the call alert display interface. This is by enabling the customization of stickers for contacts. You can now create a sticker that displays in the call alert interface with a photo or emoji to create a unique calling card. This sticker or image will appear in your contacts, when you make or receive a call.
2. Lock screen customization tools for iPad

With iPadOS 17, Apple tablets will be able to customize the lock screen, as is the case with iPhones. “Users can select a photo from their personal library, a dynamic collection of photos that shuffle throughout the day, or choose a Live Photo for a slow-motion effect when they wake up their iPad,” says Apple. Users will be able to enable live notifications on the lock screen, such as match results, Uber order status, and more. Home screen widgets are also accessible on the lock screen, where users will be able to play music or control screen brightness without having to unlock the lock screen.
3. Direct Voicemail

When not answering the incoming call and transferring the caller to the voice mail, the “Direct Transcription” feature will convert the voice message into text directly, and the text will appear on the screen immediately while receiving the call. If it is important, you will be able to answer and receive the call. You don’t have to wait after you hang up to hear the voicemail message and call back.
4. Transcribe voice messages

Live Transcription has also been added to the Messages app with iOS 17. The new feature will convert your voice message into written text. It is a very important feature for those with hearing problems.
5. Add Voicemail to FaceTime

If you’re trying to contact someone via FaceTime, and they don’t answer you. With iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, you’ll be able to leave an audio or video message.
6. Nominations to facilitate the search in messages

With iOS 17, you’ll be able to add more than one search term to help you find the message you’re looking for faster in the Messages app. The arrow pointing up will also take you back to the list of search results and it won’t hurt to scroll long and between messages.
7. Check In feature

Do you have friends or parents who are always worried about you, and ask you to let them know when you get home safely? With the Check In feature on iOS 17, your iPhone will send an alert to the contacts you selected earlier. Just activate it when you get home. If you’re late or don’t get home, Check-In will give pre-selected people a heads-up, and they’ll be able to see information like your device’s location, battery level, and cellular service status, to decide if you need help.
8. AirDrop improvements with the new NameDrop feature

With NameDrop, you don’t have to type in an email address or give your phone to someone else to exchange contact data like phone number and email. Simply place the two iPhones (or Apple Watch) near each other and give the other person permission to view your data.
This gesture also works with SharePlay if you want to listen to shared music or watch a video near other iPhones. Also, content shared via AirDrop will continue to be sent if you leave an AirDrop range, as long as both devices are signed in to iCloud.
9. Block offensive content

With iOS 17, Apple is giving people alerts when they’re about to view sexually explicit content, and letting them decline to receive photos in Messages via AirDrop, the Photos app, FaceTime, and third-party apps. It will also darken sensitive photos and videos before viewing them.
10. Support to edit PDF files

We use PDF files a lot in our daily life. The biggest problem we face with PDF files is that the text cannot be copied or modified. But with iPadOS 17 we’ll be able to select text in PDFs, so you can use phone or email numbers, addresses, and typed details more quickly. You’ll also be able to open PDFs in the Notes app, making it easy to move between pages, annotate, or outline directly on the document.
Also at the WWDC conference, we were able to try the 15-inch MacBook Air laptop, and Apple gave us the expensive Vision Pro augmented reality glasses. We will definitely review these products as they come in.
