With that in mind, we decided to do something different here at Roda Liso, a kind of extra content for the week: Instead of testing the best cell phones, today we’re going to go after the best cell phone games. Today’s category is RUNNING games!
Cell Phones Tested
Realme C55
We are going to use two cell phones in the tests, the first is entry-level and appeared here very recently, the Realme C55 launch. It has a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a 5000 mAh battery. On the screen, we have a 6.72-inch IPS LCD display. It’s a big screen with Full HD resolution and 90 Hz in refresh rate. Since the Realme C55 is an entry-level phone, let’s play with the graphics on low. POCO X4 GT
The other cell phone we are going to use is the king of intermediaries, none other than the Poco X4 GT. It was released in mid-2022, with a processor Dimensity 8100 also gives Mediatek, 8 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage. On the screen we also have a 6.6-inch IPS in FULL HD, the difference is that this POCO screen has an incredible refresh rate 144 Hz. Its battery has a capacity of 5080 mAh and charges super fast. Asphalt 9
Ah, the good old Asphalt 9, the little game that has been with us since the beginning of Roda Liso!
I’m not sure, but this one is probably the most played mobile racing game in the world. It’s been dominating this market for a few years now, and it’s no wonder: Asphalt’s graphics are very impressive, and even when things are exploding across the screen, the performance is still good. The gameplay is pretty fun too, especially when you unlock the fastest cars, it gets frantic.
Progress is very similar to the other games on this list, you run, saving money, buying parts to upgrade the car and so on.
One reality is that Asphalt has much less customization than the other games on this list, so if your intention is to paint the car, customize the bodykit, put stickers, in short, leave the car the way you want it, there are better games for that.
One of the biggest complaints about the game is that Asphalt is very pay-to-win, you pay to win. Those who invest real money in the game have a lot of advantage and end up beating everyone in multiplayer races.
Here we played on POCO F4 GT with High quality graphics. It took 60 frames average and 90% stability. The Realme C55, in Performance mode, stuck at 30 frames, but at least the stability was great, at 100%. We recently removed Asphalt from the tests and added CarX Street, since nowadays every cell phone can run Asphalt 9 just fine, so it doesn’t make sense to keep testing it all the time. Even so, it being a beautiful and well-optimized game is a huge plus point.
Strengths:

Negative points:
❌It takes a LONG time to unlock new cars;
❌Lots of microtransactions, pay-to-win.
CarX Street
We put this game here, CarX Street to replace Asphalt 9 in our performance test. Think of a game that’s hard to play! If you, like me, found Asphalt’s graphics beautiful, just take a look at this one. It looks like a PC game.
The graphics weren’t the only aspect of this game that surprised me: the excellent gameplay, progression and customization of cars are very strong features of this game.
The progression and customization reminded me a lot of old Need for Speed, like Underground 2 and Most Wanted, where we start with an ordinary car and tune it, buying parts upgrades, until it gets much faster.
In CarX Street you save money, winning races, little by little you buy a slightly better car, keep winning races, and so on until you get to Porsche and Lamborghini.
We have three ways to control the car: the standard one, which is clicking on the screen to turn, accelerate, brake, nitro, etc. The second mode is very similar to the first, but instead of buttons we have a steering wheel, in this one you hold your finger to turn as if it were a direction. And the third is the accelerometer, where you need to turn the phone itself to turn the car.
I preferred to use the first mode, with the buttons on the screen, it’s the way I’m most used to playing.
Another part that I really liked is the interface. Unlike some games on this list, in CarX Street you don’t have messages jumping in your face all the time telling you to spend real money on the game. You can play well without being disturbed.
The Poco X4 GT, with the graphics at the top, had an average of 29 FPS and stability at 95%. The Realme C55, on the other hand, was stuck, with an average of 15 frames and stability at 70%, even with the graphics at the lowest. Yeah, this little game has no pity or mercy with incoming cell phones.
Strengths:

Negative points:
❌Very heavy and poorly optimized (it won’t run well on all cell phones);

ACE RACER
This game here was a suggestion from our subscriber, Douglas Rodrigues. He commented asking us to test the new NetEase game, Ace Racer, here.
It’s a very casual Asian racing game: the car accelerates by itself, we control the steering, the drift and the special abilities of each car. The game has all that Asian MMO aesthetic, with a lot of character customization and anime cars. A pity that almost everything is paid, and the prices are quite high.
Its graphics are not as beautiful as those of Asphalt 9 and CarX Street, but on the other hand, the game is lighter and easier to run.
We have a ranked racing system if you are one of those competitive players. I still haven’t reached the necessary level to participate since I started playing a little while ago, but from what I’ve researched, it’s 3 against 3, and each team member races with a different car category: Racer, Interceptor and Support. If one team member wins, everyone wins, so the moral of the game is to do whatever it takes to keep your team’s Racer ahead.
On the Poco X4 GT we played with everything on Ultra and reached an average of 59 frames with stability at 80%. With the Realme C55, we played at low. It picked up 44 FPS on average and stability at 91%. Ace Racer is not a lightweight game, but at least we have this option to lower the graphics quality and play with more frames.
Strengths:

✅ It is possible to log in without creating an account and skipping the tutorial;

❌ Polluted interface;
❌Almost all clothes and cars are paid for with real money.
Real Racing 3
I decided to include Real Racing 3 on the list for people who don’t really like arcade games and prefer something more focused on realism. Of course, we don’t have a racing “simulator” here, but I’ll tell you that it comes very close to that.
We have licensed real cars from famous brands and also tracks that mimic the real world ones.
The interface reminded me a lot of Forza and other racing games, which is really cool and intuitive to navigate.
Since the focus is on realism, it has a huge variety of controls, you play the way you want. The editor will put the part of the game control settings on the screen for you to have an idea.
I confess that I didn’t get to play this one much, but what I realized right away is that in Real Racing 3 you need to be really good, you really have to WIN the race to progress in your career. That is, I could not unlock almost anything.
And don’t even think about paying real money for the cars, the price ranges from 15 reais to even 150 reais for ONE car, which doesn’t make any sense, in my opinion.
Real Racing 3 only has one graphic quality, and both phones came out very well in terms of performance. The Poco X4 GT hit 59 frames with 76% stability. The Realme C55 managed to boast 60 frames with 100% stability. Regardless of the cell phone you use, this little game will run very well.
Strengths:
✅Game tries to be realistic (rare in racing games);
✅ Plenty of focus on multiplayer (play with your friends);
✅Beautiful graphics;
✅ Good customization;
Negative points:
❌All expensive, pay-to-win;
❌It has less content than the other games on the list.
NEED FOR SPEED No Limits
Finally, we have the most “complete” game on the list, Need for Speed No Limits. I couldn’t even find the release date for it, but it’s been a long time. This game has received several updates over the years, with new cars and events. So it’s good to know that, despite its age, EA hasn’t forgotten about this game and continues to keep everything up to date.
Despite the graphics being outdated, you can’t say it’s an ugly game. The gameplay is pretty fun too, but what bothered me the most was the fact that the races ended in, like, 30 seconds. It’s a racing game, pow, let me race the car.
I really enjoyed seeing the number of licensed cars – there are a lot of famous cars there that you will recognize. The garage looks pretty impressive when you decide to collect.
But this one is another “freemium” game. Yes, it’s free, but everything is very time consuming to unlock and you have to play hours and hours to progress through the game. If you’re one of those people who enjoy playing all day, this can even be a positive point in the game, but if you’re like me, and play several different games, you’ll always end up with the same car.
The multiplayer isn’t the same as the other games on this list, you play against the ghost of other players, so it’s more of a race trying to get a better time than the others. On the one hand, this form of multiplayer is good, since it has no lag. On the other hand, it’s not really multiplayer.
Need is another game where we can’t change the graphics. The Poco X4 GT released the performance up to 72 average frames with 89% stability. Realme didn’t do so well, stuck at 30 frames with 96% performance. Ideally, it would release more than 30, since it’s a racing game, but we can’t expect much from an entry-level cell phone.
Strengths:
✅ Clean interface;
✅ Consistent progression;
✅ Good gameplay;
✅ Great customization.
Negative points:
❌Need to play several hours a day to get money and buy things (grind).
❌Graphics are no longer there.
