Torrential rains affect several areas of South Florida

(CNN) — The last update at 5 am on National Hurricane Center (NHC, for its acronym in English) indicates that “torrential rains are occurring in parts of South Florida” early this morning.

Tropical storm warnings cover more than 10 million people in the southern half of Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas.

“The mismatch is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm off the east coast of Florida tonight, with some strengthening forecast tonight through Monday as the system moves further away from Florida over the western Atlantic,” he said. the NHC.

The tropical storm is still producing torrential rain and tropical storm force winds in Florida this morning.

The highest rainfall totals are forecast in South Florida, where storm totals of 152mm to 254mm are forecast, but some locations could see as much as 381mm before the end of today. The NHC also says “substantial flash and urban flooding is expected” in this region.

“During the past several hours, a weather station at Alligator Reef Light south of Islamorada, Florida, reported a sustained wind of 56 km/h and a gust to 72 km/h,” the NHC said. “A gust to 77 km/h was reported at Carysfort Reef Light east of Key Largo, Florida.”
