The CEO of Total, Patrick Pouyanné, fears that new taxes will be put in place by the State.

At the beginning of September, the TotalEnergies group announced via a press release that it will extend the cap on the price of a liter of gasoline and diesel at 1.99 eurosmaximum, “as long as prices remain high”.

And this, beyond the end of 2023, in all of its 3,400 stations. An announcement made when the government had brought together distributors to demand from them “an effort of solidarity”.

Present in Lyon, this Friday, October 6, to inaugurate a new 100% electric service station, the CEO of Total, Patrick Pouyanné, indicated toNews Lyon “that he doesn’t know” if the blocking of gasoline price at 1.99 euros could ultimately continue beyond 2023.

Indeed, the latter expressed his concern about the implementation of new taxes against his group and while the government plans, as part of the discussions on the 2024 finance bill, to renew the temporary solidarity contribution.

She plans to tax the profits of oil companies at 33% when they are 20% higher than the 2019-2021 average. “I am convinced that the right method is for Total to pass on the efforts we make directly to the consumer rather than through taxes.”he explains to our colleagues at Actu Lyon.
