CATALONIA / SPAIN: The Catalan Ministry of Health has reported 5 new cases of monkeypox in Catalonia, bringing the total to 9. 7 people are linked to other cases detected in Catalonia, with 2 others still under investigation. For privacy reasons, the 5 new cases of monkeys has not shared any further details on the confirmed cases.
According to the ministry, the process to confirm possible suspected cases of monkeypox requires microbiological testing and sequencing studies that cannot be performed immediately. Suspected cases classified as such by the Epidemiological Surveillance Network of Catalonia (XVEC) are reported to the Center for the Coordination of Alerts and Health Emergencies (CCAES).
