Tour de France 2022 live today in the ticker | 4th stage: Dunkirk to Calais with Pogacar, Roglic and Van Aert

The favorites for overall victory in the 2022 Tour de France include the two Slovenians Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Primoz Roglic and his teammate Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma).

However, another Jumbo Visma driver will be driving in the yellow jersey for the 4th stage. Wout van Aert traveled from Denmark to France as overall leader.

The flat stage leads over 171.5 kilometers from Dunkirk through the hinterland to Calais. But be careful: there is a risk of wind edges along the coast for the last 25 kilometers.

66 km – 2:25 minutes only

It’s going downhill rapidly for the two front runners: Under the dictates of Trek – Segafredo, Alpecin – Deceuninck and Lotto Soudal, the cushion of the duo has already melted down to 2:25 minutes. On the way, Cort Nielsen also collected the fourth mountain prize of the day – making ten in total.

By the way: Within a very short time, several main actors in the peloton had defects – Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe), Mads Pedersen (Trek – Segafredo) and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg (Lotto Soudal) – but all three are quickly back on the bike and been in the convoy.

74 km – Cort Nielsen, on the ninth.

The third mountain classification of the day happened – and again Magnus Cort Nielsen was the first to cross the line because Perez didn’t fight back again. The peloton has now reduced the gap to 4:25 minutes.

80 km – the peloton accelerates

For a long time we rolled through France with just under 7 minutes between the top and the main field. But now Trek – Segafredo, Alpecin – Deceuninck and Lotto Soudal are picking up the pace and slowing it down again to under six minutes.

100 km – record for Cort Nielsen!

Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education – EasyPost) also takes the eighth mountain prize of this Tour of France by once again overtaking his companion Anthony Perez (Cofidis) on the Cote de Remilly-Wirquin. This time the Frenchman doesn’t even counter it. This means that only the Dane still has mountain points on his account, now he has 8. What’s special: a driver has never won eight mountain classifications in a row in one tour!

108 km – Jakobsen in front of Van Aert at the intermediate sprint

The peloton reached the intermediate sprint in Lumbres seven minutes after the leaders – and Fabio Jakobsen accelerated the most there. He takes third place ahead of Wout Van Aert, his teammate Michael Morkov and Peter Sagan, as well as Christophe Laporte and Caleb Ewan. Only Jakobsen, Van Aert, Morkov and Sagan really got out of the saddle.

117 km – Return to 6 minute hole

After the short-term unrest around Cassel, the peloton has now picked up the pace of the coffee trip again and increased the gap to the top again. Almost six minutes are now back on the clock for Cort Nielsen and Perez.

128 km – It rolls up again

None of the favorites was weakened by the wind – and even though two groups were left behind, the peloton is now out – and so the groups all roll together again. However, the pursuit of speed still had an effect: the gap to Cort Nielsen and Perez is down to 3:35 minutes.

Wind Edge Alert Explained: How to successfully outperform your opponents

134 km – edge of wind!

Now all of a sudden things are happening in the main draw! Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl went full throttle towards the mountain prize and reduced the gap to the top by almost two minutes. But the Belgians didn’t give up over the crest either and slammed down the descent at full throttle – why? Because after the descent there is suddenly a side wind on the road! Wind squadrons form immediately and the field is divided!

141 km – Cort Nielsen holt Bergpunkt Nr. 7

Cobblestones lead to the mountain classification in the town of Cassel, which is well-known for its motocross sport. Perez accelerates first, but Cort Nielsen intercepts him and then confidently pulls through to win the mountain prize. The Dane now has seven mountain points under his belt and we will wear the mountain jersey at least until Thursday. Today and tomorrow he can no longer be caught.

145 km – The peloton steps up a gear

A real chase hasn’t started yet, but at least the peloton has started to organize itself after around 25 kilometers and is slightly closing the gap to the leaders again. After the gap grew to over 6:30 minutes, it is now 6:15 minutes.

Expert tip: Voigt, McEwen, Durand & Co. rely on these drivers!

156 km to drive: 5:30 minutes for the breakaway duo

The beginning of the stage is similar to Sunday: the peloton is lazy and the gap between the two breakaways is increasing rapidly. After 15 kilometers of racing, there are now more than five and a half minutes on the slate. By the way: the first mountain prize is already waiting after 30 kilometers. If Magnus Cort Nielsen wins that, he’ll have the mountain jersey for sure until Thursday.

1:30 p.m.: Free to take off – and Cort Nielsen again!

The 4th stage is running. We passed kilometer 0 and immediately the man who rode in front on Saturday and Sunday attacked again: Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education – EasyPost) obviously wants to defend his mountain jersey very actively today. However, the Dane is not alone today: Anthony Perez (Cofidis) started with him.

Live ticker Tour de France, 4th stage: commemorating the victims of Copenhagen

Before the field rolls off, the drivers, officials and fans commemorate the victims of the Copenhagen shopping center shooting, with the Danish drivers at the forefront of the peloton. Then the long neutralized phase begins until the actual start, in bright sunshine you now roll in for almost seven kilometers.

Thoughts still in Denmark: Peloton commemorates victims of Copenhagen shooting

4th stage of the tour live: Six mountain classifications in northern France

The Côte de Cassel (4th category) welcomes the riders after 30.7 kilometers as a short stab over cobblestones, followed by the climbs to the Côte de Remilly-Wirquin (4th category), Côte de Nielles-lès-Bléquin (4th category). ), Côte de Harlettes (4th category), Côte du Ventus (4th category) and to Cap Blanc-Nez (4th category), which, as the last climb, has an average gradient of 900 meters with 10.8 kilometers to go 7.5 percent.

The drivers will be there at the stop for almost three minutes and this ramp could be fatal for some sprinters.

The roads in the region are also considered to be narrow and wavy, which again brings a lot of hectic with it. There are six poisonous mountain ratings in the daily profile:

INFO – Welcome!

The 109th Tour de France starts today after the day of rest in France. After the translation from Denmark to France, there is another flat stage. The 4th stage leads over 171.5 kilometers from Dunkirk through the hinterland to Calais. The last 25 kilometers lead along the coast. There is a risk of wind edges here. Otherwise everything points to a mass sprint.

After the northernmost Grand Départ in the history of the Tour, we continue today in the northernmost stage town in France. Dunkirk has the third busiest port in the country and is the annual destination of the Four Days of Dunkirk – which actually lasts six days and which means many drivers are very familiar with the roads here.

It starts here in the live ticker from 1:15 p.m.!
