“The Swiss want to fly again”
Airports, which offer more attractive prices and a greater number of flights, are once again popular.
After a slowdown during the Covid, airports are once again popular with the Swiss. “People want to fly again,” ITS Coop Travel chief Andi Restle said in an interview with the “SonntagsZeitung” on Sunday.
“We are providing more cancellation and travel incident insurance than before”
The local holiday mode due to the pandemic is no longer in such demand. This year there has been a “tremendous need to catch up,” according to Andi Restle. “The Swiss paid the prices the market imposed for seaside holidays,” he comments. Competition between tour operators has not degenerated into a price battle like in other years.
Among package tour operators, it is above all the south of Turkey that has been in demand this year, ahead of Majorca, Crete, Rhodes, Cyprus and Egypt. For distant destinations, the Maldives, the Dominican Republic and the United Arab Emirates were popular. “The reasons are simple: there were enough thefts; the prices were attractive,” says Andi Restle.
According to the head of ITS Coop Travel, the need for traveler security has also increased: “We are providing more cancellation and travel incident insurance than before”. The CO2 offset rate for air travel, on the other hand, is in the low single-digit range.
