Tourism to boost Qatar’s GDP; It will be 12 percent in 7 years

Doha: Within the next 7 years, it has been decided to increase the contribution of the tourism sector to the country’s GDP to 12 percent and to double the employment opportunities in the tourism sector. Tourism authorities are planning to increase the number of visitors. By 2030, the country is expected to attract 60 lakh visitors per year, which will increase the expenditure by 3-4 times.

The contribution to GDP increases by 7 to 12 percent when there is an influx of visitors. Tourism Chief Operating Officer Berthold Trenkel explained this at an event organized by Qatar Tourism and the World Tourism Organization. It was held in conjunction with the UN Conference of Least Developed Countries held at the Qatar National Convention Center.

The theme was to harness the innovation and entrepreneurship of tourism for the sustainable development of underdeveloped countries. World Tourism Organization Executive Director Soritsa Urozevic also noted that Qatar’s role in supporting the growth of the global tourism sector is great.
