PATTAYA, Thailand – A tourist’s drunken antics at a bar in Pattaya, Thailand, took a violent turn after he lifted a waitress over his head, prompting intervention from the bar’s security staff, according to video footage and witness accounts.
The incident, captured on CCTV,began when the shirtless tourist grabbed May,a 33-year-old waitress, and hoisted her into the air. The woman’s head struck an air conditioning unit, seemingly escalating the situation. May, appearing shocked but uninjured, retreated to the back of the bar after the encounter.
However, the tourist then allegedly turned his attention to the bar’s manager, attempting to kiss and embrace her, according to the manager’s account.
“I told him to return to his hotel,” said the manager, who Archyde is not naming due to privacy concerns. “I said he should stop because he was too drunk and return tomorrow. I grabbed his hand and walked him out of my bar. He pushed me away and walked back inside.”
At that point, bouncers intervened, escorting the tourist from the premises. The tourist then challenged the bouncers to a fight, according to witnesses.
Video footage shows the man, still shirtless, gesturing and shouting as if inviting a physical confrontation. One of the bouncers, reportedly trained in Muay Thai, a form of Thai boxing, accepted the challenge.
The bouncer then punched the tourist in the face, knocking him to the ground. The bouncer continued to punch and kick the man while he was down. Another man, purportedly a friend of the tourist, attempted to intervene but was quickly rebuffed.
The condition of the tourist and the waitress after the incident, and the identities of those involved, were not instantly available. Local police have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.Archyde is continuing to investigate.
