Tourists in Venice: Gondola Mishap Due to Selfie Incident

A group of tourists found themselves in canal water in Venice when their gondola capsized due to a passenger refusing to stop taking selfies and sit in the boat.

The boatman, the driver of the gondola, was trying to turn the boat to navigate under a bridge at the same time and also found himself in the cold water near St. Mark’s Square, reports The Guardian.

The maneuver in question would have required maximum balance, but as one man refused to stop taking a photo and sit down, the boat ended up upside down.

No one would have been injured.

This event occurs despite the decision three years ago to reduce the capacity of gondolas, reducing the smallest boats from 6 to 5 passengers and the largest from 14 to 12 people.

This is not the first time that a cell phone has caused an incident in Italy.

An American tourist was injured while trying to retrieve his phone which had fallen in a prohibited area near Mount Vesuvius in Naples.
